Gullfoss (Golden Falls) drops 32 meters (105 feet) into a crevice perpendicular to the flow of the Hvitá River. The crevice is a 1.5 mile fault in Iceland's crust. The souce of the Hvitá River is the Lángjökull icecap 25 miles north of Gullfoss.

The Atacama, the driest desert in the world, extends from southern Ecuador to north-central Chile. This scene is west of Lauca Park in far northern Chile, along the road to Arica on the Pacific coast.
A lovely morning in southern Iceland. That said, the ridge in the background is an arm of Eyjafjalljökull, the volcano that closed Europe to air travel in 2010. Icelanders tolerate occasional volcanic eruptions, however, the way others tolerate tornadoes or hurricanes.
